Vetericyn Products for Pets

cat

Vetericyn Animal Wellnessis an animal health company that offers many over the counter pet care products. They are most commonly known for their wound care products, but they also have eye and ear cleaners, supplements, and shampoos for pets.

The parent company of Vetericyn, named Innovacyn Inc.also offers Puracyn, a line of human products, including a wound cleansing product and eyelid care products, that are very similar to their veterinary products.

Vetericyn also has a professional line, available to veterinarians only. These products contain a higher concentration of the active ingredients and should be used only under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian.

Wound Care

For home wound care, Vetericyn offers a number of products. They have products labeled for use on companion animals such as cats and dogs, as well as for chickens and other poultry, reptiles, and horses.

The active ingredient in the Vetericyn products is hypochlorous acid. This compound should not be confused with bleach; it is a different chemical compound. Hypochlorous acid is an antimicrobial agent that does not sting and is not corrosive. The products are non-toxic and will not harm pets if they lick the area where the product was applied.

The wound and skin care liquid can be used to clean superficial wounds including small cuts, scrapes, hot spots, and other small skin irritations. Any deep cuts, puncture wounds, or bite wounds should be treated by the pet’s veterinarian right away.

The over-the-counter products can be helpful to have on hand in the event that your pet has a minor injury and needs first aid care at home. Any wound or skin irritation may worsen if not treated properly by a veterinarian, and it is always a good idea to get an injury checked out if you have concerns or you don't see improvement within 48 hours.

Antimicrobial Hydrogel

Vetericyn also offers an antimicrobial hydrogel product. This product is designed to cling to the skin and to protect and moisten the wound, which will promote healing.

This over-the-counter product can be used to cleanse minor cuts, skin irritations, and scrapes. It will also provide a protective barrier to aid in healing and resist infection.

For best results with the hydrogel product, the area to be treated should be clipped of hair and cleaned of debris. The hydrogel should then be applied to the affected area where, once dry, it will act as a protective antimicrobial barrier.

Ear Cleansers

Vetericyn Plus All Animal Ear Rinse is used as an all-purpose cleansing solution for the outer ear canal of horses, cats, and dogs. It is important to note that this product is not medicated and will not treat an ear infection or ear mites. It is a good choice for cleaning out debris, excess wax, and dead skin cells from the outer ear.

Warning

You should not use Vetericyn in ears that are suspected of an ear infection. Serious complications including hearing loss may occur if the cleanser is applied to an ear with a ruptured ear drum.

Eye Washes

Vetericyn Plus Antimicrobial Eye Wash can be used in and around the eye to remove debris and to reduce eye irritation and tear-staining. Pet owners may like this eye wash for pets that have allergic or irritated eyes occasionally.

This product is intended for rinsing and cleaning non-damaged and non-infected eyes only. Discharge, squinting, and/or pain indicate a more serious issue and these pets must be seen as soon as possible by their veterinarian. The Vetericyn products will not treat eye infections or corneal injuries, such as scratches.

FoamCare Shampoo

Vetericyn makes a line of foaming shampoos for pets, including dogs, cats, and horses. The shampoo comes in a spray bottle and is easy to spray on the pet using the foaming applicator. The formula is conditioning, non-irritating, pH optimized, and helps retain the pet's natural skin oils. It
is also very easy to rinse off.

FoamCare shampoo comes in three varieties, All Coats, Thick Coats, and Medicated. The shampoos are marketed to be soothing to the skin and to help make coats more manageable.

As with all animal care products, follow the instructions printed on Vetericyn's label or those provided by your veterinarian. Always talk to your veterinarian if you have any questions or concerns.
